IF PHOTOGRAPHY IS

ART,

then for Philippe Graton, it is an art of life.

Born in 1961 in Brussels, Philippe is a French author and photographer.

His publications include various articles, an illustrated biography of Jean-Claude Van Damme as well as scenarios for the graphic Michel Vaillant novels which he adapted for the big screen together with Luc Besson in 2003.

As a self-taught photographer, he reported for Sygma in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bosnia. His personal blog, The Wednesday Shot, was founded in 2013 and combines his love for photography and writing. Through the blog his storytelling is shared, each Wednesday, with thousands of subscribers around the globe.

From 2014 to 2019, Philippe photographed the ZAD of Notre-Dame des Landes and the daily life of this alternative society in medium format film. The photographs and field notes are gathered in a book "Carnets de la ZAD", which was published in September 2019 by Filigranes Editions.

Philippe’s photographs of the ZAD of Notre-Dame des Landes were screened for the opening of ‘Night of The Year’ at Rencontres d’Arles in 2018. The series is also exhibited at the Apollonia art center in Strasbourg, the Musée de la Photographie in Charleroi, and, in January 2020, at the National Art Center of Tokyo where he obtained the President's Prize of the Salon Blanc International Exhibition of Contemporary Art.
