Ceaushima

Speaking of dictatorship, here is the world’s largest building after the Pentagon, dreamt up by Nicolae Ceausescu and baptized Casa poporului, or The People’s House. Isn’t this a bit rich considering that the construction of his megalomaniac delusion meant that he had entire neighbourhoods razed, such as Antim and Uranus, the Montparnasse of the Balkans which were so dear to Paul Morand? Nine thousand homes destroyed, fifty thousand people displaced; the Bucharesters have renamed it “Ceaushima” in reference to the damage inflicted by the atomic bomb.
